Crizotinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Bulbine Natalensis interacts with.

Theoretically, Bulbine natalensis stem might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Bulbine natalensis stem extract induces CYP3A4 mRNA expression and enzyme activity. Theoretically, this may increase the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates, but this has not been studied in humans.

Here's the concern with pairing Bulbine natalensis and your cancer medicine crizotinib (Xalkori). Your body clears crizotinib using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab studies, this supplement appears to rev that enzyme up (induce it), which could speed up how fast crizotinib gets broken down and cleared out. That means less active drug staying in your system.

For a cancer treatment, that's a big deal. Lower crizotinib levels could mean it doesn't fight the tumor as well as it should. Important to know: this is only theoretical, based on test-tube research, not human studies. Still, with a drug this important, I wouldn't risk it. Please talk with your oncologist or pharmacist before adding this supplement.

Crizotinib (Xalkori) is a cancer pill that your body partly moves around using a transporter pump called P-glycoprotein. Bulbine natalensis has been looked at in lab dishes, where its stem extract seemed to ramp up the gene that builds this pump. If that actually played out in people, it could push more crizotinib out of your cells and possibly lower the amount working against your cancer.

Here's my honest take: this is very early evidence, only test-tube work, and the study didn't even confirm the pump itself changed. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. But because crizotinib is a serious cancer treatment where steady levels matter, please run any supplement past your oncology team before adding it.

About Crizotinib

What Is Crizotinib Used For?

Brand name: Xalkori

Xalkori (crizotinib) is used to treat adult patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) whose tumors test positive for the ALK or ROS1 gene abnormality, as confirmed by an FDA-approved test.

Xalkori is also used to treat pediatric patients aged 1 year and older and young adults with relapsed or refractory systemic ALK-positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). Additionally, it treats adult and pediatric patients aged 1 year and older with unresectable, recurrent, or refractory ALK-positive inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT). Note: Xalkori's safety and effectiveness in older adults with relapsed or refractory ALK-positive ALCL have not been established.
