Here's the short version on pairing Xultophy (which combines insulin degludec, a long-acting insulin, with liraglutide, a GLP-1 medicine) with bupleurum. Both parts of Xultophy work to lower your blood sugar. The concern with bupleurum is the opposite direction: in animal studies only, its saikosaponin compounds nudged blood sugar up. If that held true in people, it could partly push against your diabetes medicine and leave your numbers running higher than expected.

I want to be honest that this is theoretical and not proven in humans, so don't panic. Please don't change your Xultophy dose on your own. If you'd like to try bupleurum, check your blood sugar a bit more closely and loop in your pharmacist or doctor first.
