The drug you're asking about, Combunox, is a combination of ibuprofen (an anti-inflammatory) plus oxycodone, which is an opioid pain reliever. The oxycodone part already causes drowsiness, slowed breathing, dizziness, and foggy thinking on its own. The concern here is that calamus may act as a mild central nervous system depressant too, so pairing the two could stack those calming effects and leave you more sedated than you expect.

I want to be honest about the evidence: this is theoretical, based mostly on animal studies showing calamus can boost a calming brain chemical (GABA). It hasn't been proven in people. Still, given calamus has its own safety concerns and oxycodone is already a strong sedating medicine, I'd run this past your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Combunox combines ibuprofen (an anti-inflammatory) with oxycodone (an opioid painkiller). The oxycodone part is the piece that matters here. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to process oxycodone, and lab studies suggest calamus may slow that enzyme down. If oxycodone clears more slowly, levels could creep up, which might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, nausea, or in larger amounts slowed breathing.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it comes only from test-tube research, not from people, so it's theoretical at this point. Still, given oxycodone is an opioid, I'd play it safe. Combunox is a combo of ibuprofen (an anti-inflammatory) and oxycodone (an opioid pain reliever). The oxycodone part is partly broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In test-tube studies, calamus appears to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in your body, oxycodone could build up a bit, which might mean stronger effects like drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, constipation, or slowed breathing.

I want to be honest with you though: this is only laboratory evidence, not proof from people, so it's theoretical. Calamus also has its own safety concerns (it contains beta-asarone, which the FDA banned from foods), so I'd lean toward avoiding it. Because of these safety concerns and a lack of solid human evidence, it is generally best avoided.
