Atorvastatin falls under GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS — the group Calcium D-glucarate interacts with.

Theoretically, calcium D-glucarate might increase the clearance of drugs that undergo glucuronidation.
The calcium D-glucarate metabolite, D-glucaro-1,4-lactone, inhibits the enzyme beta-glucuronidase, reducing deconjugation of glucuronides in the intestine and thereby reducing reabsorption of the drugs.

Here's the gist with atorvastatin and calcium D-glucarate. Your body partly clears atorvastatin and its breakdown products by attaching a sugar-like tag (glucuronidation) so they can leave through bile and stool. Normally a gut enzyme can snip that tag off and let some of the drug get reabsorbed. Calcium D-glucarate is thought to block that snipping step, so a bit less may be reabsorbed and more gets flushed out.

In theory, that could nudge atorvastatin levels down and make it work a little less, meaning slightly weaker cholesterol control. I want to be honest though: this is mostly theoretical, based on lab and limited human data, not strong proof. It's unlikely to cause a sudden problem. If you want to try the supplement, check with your pharmacist or doctor first and keep up your cholesterol checks.

What Is Atorvastatin Used For?

Atorvastatin is used alongside a healthy diet to lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol, triglycerides (blood fats), and other harmful lipids, while raising HDL ("good") cholesterol. It treats primary hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol), mixed dyslipidemia (mixed abnormal blood fats), hypertriglyceridemia (high triglycerides), and inherited conditions such as heterozygous and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia — including in children aged 10 and older.

Beyond cholesterol control, atorvastatin is used to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, revascularization procedures, and angina (chest pain) in adults with coronary heart disease or multiple risk factors for it — including adults with type 2 diabetes who have risk factors for heart disease even without a confirmed heart disease diagnosis.
