Lovastatin falls under GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS — the group Calcium D-glucarate interacts with.

Theoretically, calcium D-glucarate might increase the clearance of drugs that undergo glucuronidation.
The calcium D-glucarate metabolite, D-glucaro-1,4-lactone, inhibits the enzyme beta-glucuronidase, reducing deconjugation of glucuronides in the intestine and thereby reducing reabsorption of the drugs.

Here's the idea behind this one. Your body tags lovastatin and many other compounds with a molecule called glucuronic acid so they can leave through your gut. A bacterial enzyme in the intestine, beta-glucuronidase, can snip that tag off and let some of the drug get reabsorbed. Calcium D-glucarate is thought to block that enzyme, which could mean a little more of the drug gets carried out rather than recycled back in.

For lovastatin, the theoretical worry is slightly less cholesterol-lowering effect, not more side effects. Honestly, this is mostly lab-based thinking, and lovastatin's blood levels depend far more on liver CYP3A4 than on this gut recycling step. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but if you take both, mention it to your pharmacist and keep an eye on your cholesterol numbers.

About Lovastatin

What Is Lovastatin Used For?

Brand names: Mevacor, Altocor

Lovastatin is used to lower high LDL ("bad") cholesterol and total cholesterol in people whose levels have not improved enough with diet alone. It is also used to slow the buildup of plaque in the arteries (coronary atherosclerosis) in people who already have coronary heart disease.

In adults without existing heart disease but with high cholesterol and low HDL ("good") cholesterol, lovastatin tablets are approved to reduce the risk of heart attack, unstable angina, and the need for procedures to open blocked arteries. Lovastatin tablets are also approved for adolescents aged 10–17 with a specific inherited condition called heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (heFH), when diet changes alone haven't been enough.
