Simvastatin falls under GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS — the group Calcium D-glucarate interacts with.

Theoretically, calcium D-glucarate might increase the clearance of drugs that undergo glucuronidation.
The calcium D-glucarate metabolite, D-glucaro-1,4-lactone, inhibits the enzyme beta-glucuronidase, reducing deconjugation of glucuronides in the intestine and thereby reducing reabsorption of the drugs.

Here's the gist with simvastatin (Zocor) and calcium D-glucarate. Some of your simvastatin gets tagged by the liver with a sugar-like molecule (glucuronidation) and sent out through bile into the gut. Normally a gut enzyme can un-tag a portion of it, letting some get reabsorbed back into your body. Calcium D-glucarate is thought to block that enzyme, so less of the drug is recycled and a bit more leaves your system.

In plain terms, this could nudge your simvastatin level slightly lower, which in theory might make it a touch less effective at lowering your cholesterol. I want to be honest though: this is mostly theoretical and based on limited research, so it's likely a small effect. Don't change anything on your own. Just mention the supplement to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your cholesterol numbers.

What Is Simvastatin Used For?

Simvastatin tablets are used alongside a cholesterol-lowering diet to treat high LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol), high triglycerides, and certain inherited cholesterol disorders, including heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH) in adults and children aged 10 and older, and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH) in adults.

In adults who already have coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, peripheral vascular disease, or diabetes and are at high risk for heart events, simvastatin is also used to reduce the risk of death from heart disease, non-fatal heart attack, stroke, and the need for procedures to open blocked arteries. Zocor is one brand-name product containing simvastatin and carries these same indications.
