Drug & supplement interaction

Cannabinol (cbn) + Cefotaxime

Cefotaxime brand name: Claforan.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Cannabinol (cbn) and Cefotaxime in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Cannabinol (cbn) and Cefotaxime

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Cefotaxime and Cannabinol (cbn) in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Cefotaxime

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Cefotaxime is filed under 7 classifications — including organic anion transporter 3 (oat3) substrates, organic anion transporter 1 (oat1) substrates, antibiotic drugs. Cannabinol (cbn) has documented interactions with 5 drug classes — the most serious being cytochrome p450 2b6 (cyp2b6) substrates (moderate), cytochrome p450 2c9 (cyp2c9) inhibitors (moderate) and cytochrome p450 2c9 (cyp2c9) substrates (moderate) — and none of Cefotaxime’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Cannabinol (cbn) and Cefotaxime May Share a Side Effect

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Cefotaxime

This page covers Cannabinol (cbn) only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Cefotaxime page lists 45 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Asarabacca (major), Siberian Cocklebur (major), African Wild Potato (moderate), Aristolochia (moderate) and Bacillus Coagulans (moderate).

By severity: 2 major · 39 moderate · 4 minor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Cefotaxime page

“The two entries worth understanding first on this cefotaxime (Claforan) list are Siberian cocklebur and asarabacca. Both can damage the kidneys on their own, and stacking that on an injectable antibiotic often given to people who are already quite sick is a risk I would not take lightly.”

About Cannabinol (cbn)

What is Cannabinol (cbn)?

  • Sleep support
  • Relaxation
  • Pain or discomfort
  • Appetite-related concerns

Cannabinol (CBN) is a minor cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant, often marketed as a 'sleep' aid, but solid human research is very limited. Because it comes from cannabis and product quality varies widely, talk with your pharmacist or doctor before trying it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Cannabaceae · Aged cannabis flower and resin (where THC degrades into CBN) · Oils and tinctures, gummies, capsules, vape products, topicals

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Cannabinol (cbn) is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Cannabinol (cbn) record says about it on its own.

Cannabinol (cbn): dosing

There is no established, standardized dose for CBN. Research is too limited to recommend a specific milligram amount, and products vary widely in strength and quality. If you choose to try a CBN product, follow the directions on the label and start with the lowest amount.

About Cefotaxime Injection

What Is Cefotaxime Injection Used For?

Brand name: Claforan

Cefotaxime Injection is used to treat serious bacterial infections in many parts of the body — including the lungs, urinary tract, skin, bones and joints, abdomen, reproductive organs, and central nervous system (such as meningitis). It also treats bloodstream infections (septicemia) and certain sexually transmitted infections, including gonorrhea.

It is also given before certain surgeries — such as abdominal or vaginal hysterectomy, gastrointestinal surgery, and cesarean section — to reduce the risk of postoperative infection. Because cefotaxime has no activity against Chlamydia trachomatis, an additional antibiotic must be added when that organism is a suspected cause of pelvic inflammatory disease.
