Carisoprodol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Cannabis interacts with.

Cannabis may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C19.
Research shows that cannabidiol (CBD), a constituent of cannabis, inhibits CYP2C19. In clinical studies and case reports, cannabidiol use resulted in significant increases in the serum levels of topiramate, methadone, citalopram, omeprazole, and N-desmethylclobazam, the primary active metabolite of clobazam. These chemicals are metabolized by CYP2C19. Concomitant use of cannabis with CYP2C19 substrates may increase the risk for adverse effects from these substrates.

Here's the gist for Soma: your body relies partly on an enzyme called CYP2C19 to break it down. CBD, one of the compounds in cannabis, can slow that enzyme. In theory, that means carisoprodol could clear out a little more slowly and build up in your system. Carisoprodol is not a prodrug, so more of it sitting around tends to mean a stronger effect.

Practically, that could show up as extra drowsiness, dizziness, grogginess, or feeling out of it, especially since cannabis can be sedating on its own. The two together may add up. This is a theoretical concern based on how the drug is processed, not proven harm, so don't panic. Just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before combining them.

What Is Carisoprodol Used For?

Brand names: Soma, Rela

Carisoprodol tablets — sold under the brand name Soma, as well as generic versions — are used to relieve discomfort associated with acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions in adults. Think short-term muscle pain and stiffness from things like lower back injuries.

This medication is intended only for short-term use — up to two or three weeks. It has not been proven effective for longer-term use, and the muscle conditions it treats are generally short-lived by nature.
