PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS
Why this applies to Brompheniramine, Phenylpropanolamine
Brompheniramine, Phenylpropanolamine falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Cilantro interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist of this one. Dimetapp combines brompheniramine (an antihistamine) with phenylpropanolamine (a decongestant). Antihistamines like brompheniramine can occasionally make your skin a little more sensitive to sunlight. Cilantro contains a compound called coriandrin that, in test-tube studies, also seems to react with sunlight. So the worry is that pairing them could, in theory, make you sunburn a bit easier than usual.
I want to keep this in perspective. This is a theoretical concern based on lab research, not real patient reports, and the cilantro you sprinkle on tacos is very unlikely to cause any problem. If you're taking concentrated cilantro supplements or essential oil and spending time in strong sun, just use sunscreen and check with your pharmacist.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Brompheniramine, Phenylpropanolamine page
“Phenylpropanolamine, the decongestant paired with brompheniramine in Dimetapp, is itself a stimulant, and that fact shapes most of this list, one worth reading with genuine care rather than a quick skim. Five of the 87 ingredients on file carry a major rating.”

About Cilantro
What is Cilantro?
- Digestive upset and bloating
- Antimicrobial support
- Antioxidant support
- Heavy metal 'detox' (chelation) claims
- Culinary flavoring
Cilantro is the leafy part of the Coriandrum sativum plant and is widely eaten as a food, where it is considered safe for most people. While it has antioxidant and antimicrobial properties in lab studies, strong human evidence for any specific health benefit is lacking, and popular 'detox' claims are not well supported. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated cilantro supplements or essential oil.
