Here's the simple version: ethacrynic acid (Edecrin) is a strong water pill that lowers blood pressure by pulling extra fluid and salt out through your urine. Cod liver oil, thanks to its omega-3 fats, can also nudge blood pressure down a little. Put them together and those effects may stack up, so your pressure could drop more than expected.

If that happens, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or wobbly when you stand up, which is something a water pill can already cause on its own. The good news is this is mostly a theoretical, mild concern, and everyday food amounts of fish oil rarely cause trouble. Still, if you take a concentrated supplement, check in with your pharmacist or doctor first, and let them know if you feel faint.

What Is Ethacrynic Acid Used For?

Brand name: Edecrin

Ethacrynic acid tablets (sold as Edecrin and Ethacrynic Acid) are used to treat edema — excess fluid that builds up in the body — when other, milder diuretics aren't strong enough. It treats edema related to congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, and kidney disease, including nephrotic syndrome (a kidney condition that causes protein loss and swelling).

It is also used for short-term management of fluid buildup from malignancy (cancer-related ascites), idiopathic edema (swelling with no clear cause), and lymphedema (swelling from a blocked lymph system). In hospitalized children (not infants), it may be used short-term for edema related to congenital heart disease or nephrotic syndrome.
