Theoretically, DHEA might increase the risk of psychiatric adverse events when used with antidepressants.
In a human case report, the use of a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) with DHEA caused a manic episode. Concern for this interaction may be greater in younger individuals with higher baseline DHEA levels.

Here's the gist with DHEA and trazodone: this is mostly a theoretical concern, and the worry isn't about how your body breaks the drug down. It's about overlapping effects on mood. Because DHEA is a hormone your body can turn into testosterone and estrogen, it may nudge your mood and brain chemistry. Pair that with an antidepressant like trazodone, and there's a small, mostly on-paper risk of mood swings or, rarely, a manic episode (feeling overly wired, racing thoughts, very little need for sleep).

Honestly, the evidence here is thin, based mainly on lab work and a single case report with an SSRI, not trazodone specifically. The concern may be a touch higher in younger folks. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Theoretically, DHEA might increase the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Some preliminary evidence shows that DHEA may inhibit CYP3A4; however, the clinical significance of this potential interaction is not known.

Here's the gist: your body relies on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down and clear trazodone. There's some early, fairly thin evidence that DHEA may slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happened, trazodone could clear a little more slowly and build up in your system, which might nudge up its usual effects, things like drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, or feeling extra groggy or lightheaded when you stand up.

I want to be honest, though: this is mostly theoretical and based on weak, anecdotal data, so we really don't know if it matters in real life. Trazodone isn't a prodrug, so we're talking about more of the drug, not less. If you take both, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and watch for extra sleepiness so they can keep an eye on things.
