Ibuprofen lysine falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Dong Quai interacts with.

Theoretically, dong quai may increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs; however, research is conflicting.
Animal studies suggest that dong quai has antithrombin activity and inhibits platelet aggregation due to its coumarin components. Additionally, some case reports in humans suggest that dong quai can increase the anticoagulant effects of warfarin. However, clinical research in healthy adults shows that taking 1 gram of dong quai root daily for 3 weeks does not significantly inhibit platelet aggregation or cause bleeding. Until more is known, use dong quai with caution in patients taking antiplatelet/anticoagulant drugs.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with this pairing. Ibuprofen (the active ingredient in NeoProfen) is an NSAID, and NSAIDs already nudge up bleeding risk on their own because they affect how your platelets clump together to form clots. They can also irritate the stomach lining. Dong Quai contains natural coumarin compounds that, at least in animal and lab studies, may also thin the blood a bit.

So in theory, stacking the two together could add up and raise your chance of bruising, nosebleeds, or stomach bleeding. I want to be straight with you though: this concern is theoretical, and human studies have been mixed, with one trial showing no real bleeding effect. It's not a reason to panic, but it is worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you take ibuprofen often.

About Ibuprofen

What Is Ibuprofen Used For?

Brand name: NeoProfen

Oral ibuprofen products (tablets, coated tablets, and liquid-filled capsules) are used to temporarily relieve minor aches and pains from headache, backache, toothache, muscular aches, menstrual cramps, minor arthritis pain, and the common cold, and to temporarily reduce fever. The oral prescription tablet (Ibu) is also indicated for the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, mild to moderate pain, and primary dysmenorrhea (painful periods).

Caldolor, an intravenous (IV) form, is approved for adults and children 3 months and older to manage mild to moderate pain, to manage moderate to severe pain alongside opioid pain medicines, and to reduce fever. A separate intravenous solution, Ibuprofen Lysine, is used specifically in premature infants to close a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) — an abnormal blood vessel connection near the heart — when standard medical management has not worked.
