First, a real safety note: European mandrake is genuinely toxic and we don't recommend taking it in any form. Setting that aside, here's the interaction itself. Mandrake's tropane alkaloids (like atropine and scopolamine) slow down how fast your gut moves things along. The theory is that slower gut movement could let your body absorb a bit more of an oral medication like trimipramine.

Trimipramine isn't a prodrug, so more absorbed simply means more drug effect. That could mean stronger anticholinergic symptoms, things this antidepressant already causes, such as dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, drowsiness, and a faster heartbeat. Mandrake causes those very same effects, so the two would stack. Keep in mind this is theoretical, based on pharmacology rather than real cases. Please don't combine them, and talk with your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Trimipramine Used For?

Brand names: Surmontil, Trimip, Rhotrimine, Tripramine, Trimp

Trimipramine capsules are indicated for the relief of symptoms of depression. Endogenous depression — depression that arises from within, rather than from an obvious outside cause — is more likely to respond to treatment than other types.

In clinical studies, trimipramine worked as well as imipramine in hospitalized patients with depression, and was comparable to amitriptyline in less severely depressed outpatients.
