Evodia and Vonoprazan, Amoxicillin

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES

Why this applies to Vonoprazan, Amoxicillin

Vonoprazan, Amoxicillin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Evodia interacts with.

Theoretically, evodia might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that evodia extract inhibits hepatic CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

This combination pack (Voquezna Dual) pairs vonoprazan, which calms stomach acid, with the antibiotic amoxicillin to treat H. pylori. Vonoprazan is partly handled by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In test-tube studies, evodia appears to slow that same enzyme down. In theory, that could let vonoprazan build up a little, which might mean more of its usual side effects like headache, diarrhea, or an upset stomach. Amoxicillin clears mostly through the kidneys, so it isn't really affected here.

I want to be honest: this is only lab data, not something seen in real people, so the actual risk is probably small. Still, since you're on a short, important treatment course, it's worth running it by your pharmacist or doctor first.
