Fish Oil + Dapsone
Dapsone brand names: Dapsone, Avlosulfon, Aczone.
We found no known interaction between Fish Oil and Dapsone in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.
Fish Oil and Dapsone
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Dapsone and Fish Oil in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.
Fish Oil safety at a glance
Pregnancy & breastfeeding ratings are from Natural Medicines (Therapeutic Research Center) — the full detail is in the Special populations card below. Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.
Why No Interaction Is Listed for Dapsone
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Dapsone is filed under 7 classifications — including antibiotic drugs, topical drugs, photosensitizing drugs. Fish Oil has documented interactions with 9 drug classes — the most serious being antihypertensive drugs (moderate), contraceptive drugs (moderate) and cyclosporine (neoral, sandimmune) (moderate) — and none of Dapsone’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.
Fish Oil Does Interact With Other Medications
Fish Oil has 207 moderate, 120 minor known drug interactions in our database — Dapsone isn’t one of them. If you take anything else, check it against the full list below.

Fish Oil in Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
When used orally and appropriately. Intake of fish oil during pregnancy does not appear to adversely affect the fetus or nursing infant. One large clinical trial shows that intake of fish oil from the 24th week of gestation increases the odds of the child having overweight and having metabolic syndrome measurements at age 10 when compared with placebo. More research is needed to confirm these findings. The adequate intake level of omega-3 fatty acids during pregnancy is 1.4 grams daily; the adequate intake level during lactation is 1.3 grams daily. If possible, people who are trying to become pregnant, as well as those who are pregnant or lactating, should avoid swordfish, king mackerel, and tilefish (also called golden bass or golden snapper), as these may contain high levels of methylmercury. Pregnant individuals should also limit consumption of other fatty fish to 12 ounces, or about 3-4 servings, per week.
When fish oil from dietary sources are consumed in large amounts. Fatty fish can contain significant amounts of toxins such as mercury, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), dioxin, and dioxin-related compounds.

These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. Each one covers Fish Oil or Dapsone, not necessarily both, but if one is close to what you were about to ask it will usually go further than a database entry can:

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Dapsone page
“Dapsone treats serious conditions, from dermatitis herpetiformis to leprosy, and its supplement list is one I'd want a patient to read closely rather than skim. Most entries touch how the body handles dapsone through the CYP3A4 enzyme, so grapefruit can raise its blood level while St.”

Where does our data come from?
- Source: the Natural Medicines (TRC Healthcare) clinical database — the evidence-graded professional reference for herb & supplement interactions.
- Citation library: 103,510 references behind our interaction content, 65,311 of them resolved to verified PubMed/DOI sources. See every Fish Oil reference on this page ↓
- Freshness: we automatically re-check this combination every week — this pair was last verified September 13, 2026. The Fish Oil and Dapsone records this page draws on were last updated July 10, 2026.
- What “no known interaction” means: no documented interaction in the sources above — not a guarantee of safety. Supplements are studied far less than prescription drugs, so we say exactly what the evidence supports, and nothing more.
About Fish Oil
What is Fish Oil?
- High triglycerides
- Heart health
- Joint pain and inflammation
- Brain and eye health
- Dry eyes
Fish oil provides omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) that are best known for lowering high triglyceride levels. The evidence for other heart and health benefits is mixed, and it is generally well tolerated. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting it, especially if you take blood thinners or have a fish allergy.
Oil from fatty fish (such as mackerel, salmon, sardines, and anchovies) · Softgel capsules, liquid, gummies, and fortified foods
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Fish Oil is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Fish Oil record says about it on its own.
Fish Oil: dosing
There is no single standard dose of fish oil for everyone, and the right amount depends on why it is being used and the EPA/DHA content of the product. Higher, prescription-strength doses used for very high triglycerides should only be used under a doctor's supervision.

About Dapsone
What Is Dapsone Used For?
Brand names: Dapsone, Avlosulfon, Aczone
Dapsone tablets are used to treat dermatitis herpetiformis (a chronic, intensely itchy blistering skin condition) and leprosy (all forms, except where proven resistance to dapsone exists). For leprosy, dapsone tablets are typically used in combination with other anti-leprosy medicines.
Aczone Gel (dapsone gel, 7.5%) and dapsone gel are indicated for the topical treatment of acne vulgaris in patients 9 years of age and older. This topical form is applied to the skin and is not used for leprosy or dermatitis herpetiformis.
Most-Reported Side Effects for Dapsone
From FAERS, the FDA’s public side-effect reporting system (10,640 reports, all brands). Reports are voluntary and are not proof the drug caused the effect.
