Flaxseed + Cloxacillin Sodium
Cloxacillin Sodium brand names: Tegopen, Cloxi, Cloxapen.
Flaxseed has a moderate interaction with Cloxacillin Sodium. Theoretically, antibiotics might interfere with the metabolism of flaxseed constituents, which could potentially alter the effects of flaxseed.

ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Cloxacillin Sodium
Cloxacillin Sodium falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Flaxseed interacts with.
Some potential benefits of flaxseed are thought to be due to its lignan content. Secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG), a major lignan precursor, is found in high concentrations in flaxseed. SDG is converted by bacteria in the colon to the lignans enterolactone and enterodiol. Antibiotics alter the flora of the colon, which could theoretically alter the metabolism of flaxseed.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with cloxacillin and flaxseed: this one runs the opposite direction from most drug interactions. Cloxacillin isn't being changed by the flaxseed. Instead, the antibiotic may affect what your body does with the flaxseed. A lot of flaxseed's potential perks come from lignans, and those only get "switched on" when friendly bacteria in your colon convert them. Cloxacillin, like other antibiotics, can shake up those gut bacteria.
So in theory, while you're on a course of cloxacillin, flaxseed might give you a little less of its lignan benefit. This is purely theoretical and not well studied, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Your cloxacillin will still work fine, and flaxseed as a food is still safe. If you have questions, just check with your pharmacist.

Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Cloxacillin Sodium page
“The entries that concern me most on cloxacillin sodium (Tegopen, Cloxapen), a penicillin antibiotic used against staph infections, are the ones that strain the kidneys or stop the drug from getting absorbed at all. Siberian cocklebur and asarabacca can add to kidney stress, and activated charcoal can soak up the antibiotic itself, so t…”

About Flaxseed
What is Flaxseed?
- Constipation and digestive health
- High cholesterol
- Heart health
- Menopausal symptoms
- Blood sugar support
Flaxseed is a nutritious food rich in fiber, omega-3 fats (ALA), and plant compounds called lignans. It is most reliably helpful for constipation and may modestly lower cholesterol, but evidence for many other uses is mixed or limited. It is generally safe as a food, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it as a supplement, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
