Binimetinib falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Garcinia interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use with other potentially hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of developing liver damage.
There have been reports of acute hepatitis with elevated liver enzymes associated with garcinia, when taken alone or in combination with other ingredients. Case reports collected from the Drug Induced Liver Injury Network suggest this risk may be greater in people who carry the HLA B*35:01 allele.

Here's the concern with pairing Garcinia and binimetinib (Mektovi): both can be tough on the liver. Binimetinib is well known for raising liver enzymes in some people, and your oncology team already watches your bloodwork closely for that reason. Garcinia has its own scattered reports of liver inflammation (acute hepatitis), so stacking the two could, in theory, add up to more strain on the liver.

To be honest, this is a theoretical caution based on how each one behaves, not proof that the combination causes harm. Garcinia doesn't change how binimetinib works in your body. Still, with a cancer medicine this important, I'd skip the Garcinia and talk with your oncologist or pharmacist first. Watch for yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness, and report those right away.

What Is Binimetinib Used For?

Brand name: Mektovi

Mektovi (binimetinib) is used in combination with another medicine called encorafenib. Together, they treat unresectable (cannot be surgically removed) or metastatic (spread to other parts of the body) melanoma in patients whose tumors have a BRAF V600E or V600K mutation, as confirmed by an FDA-approved test.

Mektovi, used with encorafenib, is also approved for adult patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that carries a BRAF V600E mutation, again confirmed by an FDA-approved test. In both cases, testing for the specific mutation is required before starting treatment.
