Garcinia + Nortriptyline
Nortriptyline brand names: Pamelor, Nortriptyline, Aventyl, Allegron.
Garcinia has a moderate interaction with Nortriptyline. Theoretically, combining garcinia with other serotonergic drugs might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
SEROTONERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Nortriptyline
Nortriptyline falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Garcinia interacts with.
In one report, a patient experienced serotonin syndrome after taking garcinia extract (60% hydroxycitric acid) 1000 mg daily in combination with escitalopram 20 mg, which had been taken for a year. The patient was switched to sertraline 50 mg daily and again experienced serotonin syndrome.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with Garcinia and nortriptyline. Nortriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant that nudges up serotonin in your brain. Garcinia has been linked, in a few scattered reports, to raising serotonin activity too. Put them together and the theoretical worry is too much serotonin, which can cause something called serotonin syndrome.
To be clear, this is based on weak, anecdotal evidence (a couple of case reports with different antidepressants), not solid studies. Still, it's worth knowing the warning signs: agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shivering, muscle twitching, or feeling confused. If you notice those, seek help. Garcinia also carries some liver concerns of its own. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it rather than changing anything on your own.

- Weight loss
- Appetite suppression
- Curbing sugar and carb cravings
- Supporting metabolism
- Traditional cooking and souring agent
Garcinia is a tropical fruit whose rind contains hydroxycitric acid (HCA), widely marketed for weight loss and appetite control. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before trying it, especially if you have liver issues, are pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
About Nortriptyline
What Is Nortriptyline Used For?
Brand names: Pamelor, Nortriptyline, Aventyl, Allegron
Nortriptyline is approved to relieve symptoms of depression. This applies to nortriptyline hydrochloride capsules, nortriptyline hydrochloride oral solution, and Pamelor capsules — all used for the same core indication.
The label notes that depression arising from within the body (endogenous depression) may respond better than other types of depression, though all of these products are indicated for the broader relief of depressive symptoms.

Nortriptyline Is Linked to Lower Levels of 3 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Nortriptyline as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Garcinia — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
