Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
SEROTONERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Chlorpheniramine, Pheylephrine, Pyrilamine
Chlorpheniramine, Pheylephrine, Pyrilamine falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Garcinia interacts with.
In one report, a patient experienced serotonin syndrome after taking garcinia extract (60% hydroxycitric acid) 1000 mg daily in combination with escitalopram 20 mg, which had been taken for a year. The patient was switched to sertraline 50 mg daily and again experienced serotonin syndrome.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing about your Phena-Plus: it pairs an antihistamine (chlorpheniramine), a decongestant (phenylephrine), and another antihistamine (pyrilamine). The piece that overlaps with Garcinia is chlorpheniramine, which has mild serotonin-related activity. The worry on file is that Garcinia might nudge serotonin levels up too, and stacking them could, in theory, raise the risk of serotonin syndrome. Watch for things like agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shivering, tremor, or muscle twitching.
I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It rests on a single case report with a different drug, so it's theoretical, not proven for this combo. For most people taking Phena-Plus short-term for cold or allergy symptoms, the real-world risk is low. Still, if you take any other serotonin-raising medicine (like an antidepressant), check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Garcinia is a tropical fruit whose rind contains hydroxycitric acid (HCA), widely marketed for weight loss and appetite control.
