Fentanyl falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Garcinia interacts with.

Theoretically, combining garcinia with other serotonergic drugs might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome.
In one report, a patient experienced serotonin syndrome after taking garcinia extract (60% hydroxycitric acid) 1000 mg daily in combination with escitalopram 20 mg, which had been taken for a year. The patient was switched to sertraline 50 mg daily and again experienced serotonin syndrome.

Here's the connection worth knowing about. Fentanyl, besides easing pain, has mild effects on serotonin, a brain chemical. Garcinia (through its hydroxycitric acid) may also nudge serotonin levels. Put the two together and there's a theoretical chance of too much serotonin activity, which is called serotonin syndrome.

I want to keep this in perspective. This concern rests on weak, anecdotal evidence, mostly a single report involving garcinia with an antidepressant, not fentanyl specifically. Still, serotonin syndrome is worth recognizing: think agitation, fast heart rate, sweating, shivering, muscle twitching, or confusion. If you notice those symptoms, seek help promptly. Since fentanyl is a powerful opioid, please don't add garcinia without first checking with your doctor or pharmacist.

What Is Fentanyl Used For?

Brand names: Sublimaze, Duragesic, Fentora, Lazanda, Abstral, Subsys

Fentanyl transdermal system is prescribed for severe, persistent pain that cannot be controlled with other pain medicines, including shorter-acting opioids. It is only for people who are already opioid-tolerant — meaning they've been taking a significant daily opioid dose for at least a week.

It is not for short-term pain, post-surgical pain, mild pain, or use on an as-needed basis. Because of serious risks including addiction, overdose, and death, it is reserved for situations where other treatment options have failed or are not appropriate.
