Garcinia + Duloxetine
Duloxetine brand names: Cymbalta, Drizalma Sprinkle, Irenka.
Duloxetine falls into 2 drug categories that Garcinia can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, combining garcinia with other serotonergic drugs might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Garcinia interacts with whole categories of medication. Duloxetine falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Garcinia in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
SEROTONERGIC DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Duloxetine
Duloxetine falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Garcinia interacts with.
In one report, a patient experienced serotonin syndrome after taking garcinia extract (60% hydroxycitric acid) 1000 mg daily in combination with escitalopram 20 mg, which had been taken for a year. The patient was switched to sertraline 50 mg daily and again experienced serotonin syndrome.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the concern with pairing Garcinia and duloxetine (Cymbalta). Duloxetine raises serotonin levels in your body, which is how it helps with depression, anxiety, and nerve pain. There is a theory, backed mostly by a single case report, that Garcinia may also nudge serotonin upward. Stacking the two could push serotonin too high.
If that happened, you might notice symptoms of serotonin syndrome: agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shivering, muscle twitching, or feeling shaky and confused. To be clear, the evidence here is weak and anecdotal, so this is far from certain. Still, before adding any Garcinia supplement, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and don't change your duloxetine on your own.

HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
2 of 2Duloxetine also falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS.
There have been reports of acute hepatitis with elevated liver enzymes associated with garcinia, when taken alone or in combination with other ingredients. Case reports collected from the Drug Induced Liver Injury Network suggest this risk may be greater in people who carry the HLA B*35:01 allele.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the concern with pairing Garcinia and duloxetine (Cymbalta). This isn't about one changing the blood levels of the other. Instead, both can be tough on the liver. Duloxetine carries its own small risk of raising liver enzymes, and there have been case reports of liver injury (acute hepatitis) linked to garcinia supplements. Stacking two things that stress the liver could, in theory, add up.
I'll be honest with you: this is a theoretical caution based on how these work, not strong proof. Still, watch for warning signs like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, nausea, or unusual tiredness. Before adding garcinia, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you have any liver issues.

Duloxetine Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Duloxetine as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Garcinia — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
