Bellafoline, Phenobarbital falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Goldenseal interacts with.

Goldenseal contains berberine. Animal research shows that berberine can have sedative effects. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Belladenal contains phenobarbital, a barbiturate that already calms the nervous system, so it can leave you feeling drowsy, foggy, or slow to react. Goldenseal carries a compound called berberine, and in animal studies that berberine showed mild sedating effects. The worry here is simple: stacking two things that relax the brain could add up to more sleepiness than you expect.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This is a theoretical concern. The sedation from goldenseal has only been seen in animals, not reported in people. Still, with phenobarbital on board, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding goldenseal, just to be safe with how alert you feel.
