Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Dextroamphetamine Sulphate
Dextroamphetamine Sulphate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Goldenseal interacts with.
Clinical and in vitro research shows that goldenseal can significantly inhibit CYP2D6 enzymes, potentially increasing levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the gist: your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 as one of the ways it breaks down dextroamphetamine. Goldenseal (thanks to its berberine) can slow that enzyme down. When the cleanup crew works slower, more of the stimulant can linger in your system, so you may notice stronger effects, like a racing or pounding heartbeat, higher blood pressure, trouble sleeping, jitteriness, reduced appetite, or feeling wired and anxious.
This is graded as a probable, moderate interaction based on fairly limited human research, so it isn't a guaranteed dramatic spike. Still, since stimulants already nudge your heart and blood pressure, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them. Don't change your dose on your own.
