Theoretically, goldenseal might increase the sedative effects of CNS depressants.
Goldenseal contains berberine. Animal research shows that berberine can have sedative effects. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the situation with goldenseal and oxycodone. Oxycodone is a strong opioid pain reliever, and one of its main effects is calming down the central nervous system, which can leave you drowsy, foggy, or slow to breathe. Goldenseal contains berberine, and in animal studies berberine showed mild sedative effects of its own. The concern is that, in theory, the two together could add up to extra sleepiness.

I want to be honest about the strength of this one. It's only a theoretical concern based on lab and animal work, and this sedation hasn't actually been reported in people taking goldenseal. So I wouldn't panic. Still, since oxycodone already carries real drowsiness and breathing risks, it's worth mentioning goldenseal to your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Here's the gist for you. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to convert oxycodone into a stronger active form (oxymorphone). Goldenseal can slow that enzyme down. The interesting twist is that oxycodone still works well even without that conversion, because the original molecule relieves pain on its own. So with goldenseal in the picture, you may make a bit less of the potent byproduct, and for some people that could mean slightly less pain relief.

The evidence here is moderate, not rock-solid, and most people won't notice a dramatic change. Still, since opioids carry real risks, please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before pairing goldenseal supplements with your oxycodone rather than adjusting anything on your own.
