What Is Albendazole Used For?

Brand name: Albenza

Albendazole tablets — sold under the brand name Albenza as well as generically — are used to treat two specific parasitic infections. The first is neurocysticercosis, an infection of the brain caused by larval forms of the pork tapeworm (Taenia solium). The second is cystic hydatid disease, an infection of the liver, lungs, or the lining of the abdomen caused by the larval form of the dog tapeworm (Echinococcus granulosus).

Both Albenza (the brand) and generic albendazole tablets are FDA-approved for these same two conditions. Your doctor will determine which form is right for you.
