Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Umeclidinium Bromide, Vilanterol Trifenatate
Umeclidinium Bromide, Vilanterol Trifenatate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Goldthread interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the deal with Anoro Ellipta (umeclidinium and vilanterol) and goldthread. The vilanterol part of your inhaler is partly broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Goldthread contains berberine, which lab studies suggest might slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happened, a little more vilanterol could linger in your body.
In real life, vilanterol is inhaled and only small amounts reach your bloodstream, so this is mostly a theoretical concern with no human reports behind it. Still, if you notice things like a faster or pounding heartbeat, jitteriness, tremor, or trouble sleeping, that's worth mentioning. Don't change how you use your inhaler. Just check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding goldthread.
