Here's the simple version: Codeine works on your brain and nervous system to calm pain and quiet a cough, and one of its common effects is making you feel drowsy. Griffonia seed extract supplies 5-HTP, which in studies has also caused sleepiness for some people. So this isn't about one changing how the other is broken down. It's more of an add-on effect, where two things that both relax the brain could stack up.

Together they might leave you feeling extra sleepy, foggy, lightheaded, or slow to react. Keep in mind this is a theoretical concern based on how each one behaves, not strong proof from studies. Still, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them, and don't drive until you know how the combo affects you.

Codeine Sulfate tablets are used for the management of mild to moderate pain in adults and adolescents when other treatments have not worked well enough or are not tolerated. It is an opioid medication, so it is only appropriate when non-opioid options are inadequate.

Because of its serious risks — including addiction, misuse, and overdose — codeine is reserved for patients who truly need an opioid. Prescribers are expected to use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time possible.
