First things first: I really wouldn't take groundsel at all. It contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids, plant chemicals that are known to damage the liver, and there's no good evidence it helps with anything. The phenobarbital in your Donnatal-type medicine is a strong inducer of a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, which is the same enzyme that turns groundsel's alkaloids into their toxic forms. So in theory, phenobarbital could speed up that conversion and make any liver harm from groundsel more likely.

I want to be honest, though: this concern comes only from lab and animal data, not from real patient cases, so it's theoretical. Still, why take the risk? Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't start or stop your prescribed medicine on your own.
