Groundsel + Primidone
Primidone brand name: Mysoline.
Groundsel has a moderate interaction with Primidone. Theoretically, taking CYP3A4 inducers with groundsel might increase the risk of pyrrolizidine alkaloid toxicity, such as hepatotoxicity.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS
Why this applies to Primidone
Primidone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS — the group Groundsel interacts with.
Pyrrolizidine alkaloids, constituents of groundsel, are converted to toxic metabolites by CYP3A4.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to understand with this pair. Primidone speeds up a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Normally that's just part of how your body works, but groundsel contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids, and that same enzyme turns those plant chemicals into toxic byproducts. So if you took groundsel while on Primidone, your revved-up enzyme could crank out more of those harmful metabolites, raising the risk of liver damage. Watch for things like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness.
I'll be straight with you though: this concern is theoretical, based on lab and animal data, not real patient cases. Honestly, groundsel isn't safe to swallow regardless. Please don't take it, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding any herbal product.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.
- AHigh-quality meta-analysis (quantitative systematic review).

About Groundsel
What is Groundsel?
- Menstrual complaints
- Digestive upset
- Minor wounds (topical)
- Sore gums or mouth
- Mild aches
Groundsel is a common weed traditionally used as a folk remedy, but it contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids that can cause serious liver damage. There is no reliable evidence that it works for any condition, and most health authorities consider it unsafe to take internally. We do not recommend using it.
About Primidone
What Is Primidone Used For?
Brand name: Mysoline
Primidone tablets (sold as Mysoline and as generic Primidone) are used to control three types of epileptic seizures: grand mal (generalized convulsive), psychomotor, and focal seizures.

Primidone Is Linked to Lower Levels of 3 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Primidone as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Groundsel — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
