Bosentan falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Guarumo interacts with.

Evidence from animal research suggests that aqueous and ethanolic extracts of guarumo leaf can lower blood pressure when administered intravenously to rats. Theoretically, concomitant use of antihypertensive drugs with guarumo might enhance therapeutic effects and increase the risk of hypotension. Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDIURIL), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Here's the gist for Bosentan (Tracleer). Guarumo tea has shown a mild blood-pressure-lowering effect, but only in animal studies where extracts were injected. So this is a theoretical concern, not something proven in people taking pills. Bosentan itself can already drop blood pressure as it relaxes vessels, so the worry is simply that stacking the two might add up.

If your pressure dipped too low, you could feel dizzy, lightheaded, faint, or unusually tired. None of that is a reason to panic with a cup of tea, but concentrated guarumo supplements are a different story. Since Bosentan is prescribed for a serious lung condition, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding guarumo, and don't change your Bosentan on your own.

Guarumo (Cecropia obtusifolia) is a tropical tree used in Latin American traditional medicine, most often as a leaf tea for diabetes and high blood pressure. Some early laboratory and small human studies suggest it may modestly affect blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. What Is Bosentan Used For?

Brand name: Tracleer

Bosentan is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) — high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. In adults, it helps improve the ability to exercise and slows how quickly the disease gets worse.

In children aged 3 years and older with idiopathic (no known cause) or congenital (present from birth) PAH, bosentan is used to lower resistance in the lung blood vessels, which is expected to improve exercise ability. Tracleer is one brand approved for both adults and pediatric patients with PAH.
