Deserpidine, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Guarumo interacts with.

Evidence from animal research suggests that aqueous and ethanolic extracts of guarumo leaf can lower blood pressure when administered intravenously to rats. Theoretically, concomitant use of antihypertensive drugs with guarumo might enhance therapeutic effects and increase the risk of hypotension. Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDIURIL), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Your medication actually combines two blood pressure lowering ingredients: deserpidine (which calms an overactive nervous system) and hydrochlorothiazide (a water pill that helps your body shed extra salt and fluid). Both already nudge your blood pressure down. Guarumo, the leaf tea, may have its own mild blood pressure lowering effect, so stacking it on top could push your numbers lower than intended.

If that happens, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or faint, especially when standing up quickly. I'll be honest with you, though: this concern comes mostly from animal studies where extracts were given by injection, so the evidence is weak and largely theoretical for a person sipping tea. Still, please don't start or stop anything on your own. Check in with your pharmacist or doctor first, and keep an eye on your blood pressure.
