Insulin determir falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Guarumo interacts with.

Some clinical evidence suggests that drinking tea prepared with guarumo leaf might lower blood glucose levels in people with type 2 diabetes. Theoretically, guarumo might have additive effects when used with antidiabetes drugs. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary. Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, metformin (Glucophage), pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.

Here's the simple version: Levemir (insulin detemir) already does one main job, which is lowering your blood sugar. Guarumo tea may nudge your blood sugar down a little on its own, based on some early, lower-quality studies in people with type 2 diabetes. Stack the two together and those effects can add up, so your blood sugar could drop lower than you expect.

If it goes too low, you might feel shaky, sweaty, dizzy, confused, or unusually hungry. That doesn't mean you can't use both, but it's worth a conversation. Please don't change your insulin dose on your own. Check your blood sugar more often if you start guarumo, and let your pharmacist or doctor know so they can help you adjust safely.

Brand name: Levemir

Levemir (insulin detemir) is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults and children with type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes. It is a basal insulin, meaning it works around the clock to keep background blood sugar levels steady.

Levemir is not recommended for treating diabetic ketoacidosis (a dangerous buildup of acids in the blood that requires a different type of insulin).
