Pitavastatin falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Hemp Agrimony interacts with.

Hemp agrimony contains hepatotoxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA). Theoretically, using hemp agrimony with hepatotoxic drugs might have additive adverse effects on the liver. Some drugs that can adversely affect the liver include acetaminophen (Tylenol and others), amiodarone (Cordarone), carbamazepine (Tegretol), isoniazid (INH), methotrexate (Rheumatrex), methyldopa (Aldomet), fluconazole (Diflucan), itraconazole (Sporanox), erythromycin (Erythrocin, Ilosone, others), phenytoin (Dilantin), lovastatin (Mevacor), pravastatin (Pravachol), simvastatin (Zocor), and many others.

Here's the concern with pairing hemp agrimony and pitavastatin. Hemp agrimony can contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids, natural compounds that may be hard on the liver. Pitavastatin, like other statins, occasionally raises liver enzymes on its own. Put the two together and, at least in theory, you could be stacking two liver stresses on top of each other.

I want to be straight with you: this is a theoretical interaction based on how these substances behave, not on solid human studies. It's not about pitavastatin building up or losing its effect. Still, because of the alkaloid worry, most experts already advise against taking hemp agrimony internally at all. Watch for fatigue, belly pain, dark urine, or yellowing of the skin or eyes, and please check with your pharmacist or doctor before using this herb.

What Is Pitavastatin Used For?

Brand names: Zypitamag, Nikita

Pitavastatin tablets are used alongside a cholesterol-lowering diet to reduce LDL-C (low-density lipoprotein, or "bad" cholesterol) in adults with primary hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol not caused by another disease).

Livalo, Pitavastatin Calcium (tablet), and some other pitavastatin tablet products are also approved for adults and children aged 8 years and older with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH) — an inherited condition that causes very high LDL-C from birth. Zypitamag is labeled only for adults with primary hyperlipidemia; its labeling does not include the pediatric HeFH indication.
