Clomipramine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Horny Goat Weed interacts with.

Theoretically, horny goat weed might increase the effects and side effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro, horny goat weed leaf extract inhibits CYP1A2. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: your body relies partly on a liver enzyme called CYP1A2 to break down clomipramine. In lab dish studies, horny goat weed leaf seems to slow that enzyme down. If that same effect happened in people, clomipramine could clear out more slowly and build up a bit, which might mean stronger effects and more side effects like drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, or a faster heartbeat.

The important part: this is only seen in test-tube research, not in actual humans, so it stays theoretical for now. Clomipramine isn't a prodrug, so more in your system means more drug effect, not less. Still, since it's an antidepressant worth keeping steady, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding this herb.

Theoretically, horny goat weed might increase the effects and side effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro, horny goat weed extract inhibits CYP3A4 and suppresses CYP3A4 mRNA expression. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Clomipramine — sold as Anafranil and under the generic name Clomipramine Hydrochloride — is approved to treat obsessions and compulsions in people with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). This includes adults and children/adolescents ages 10 to 17.

To qualify for treatment, the obsessions or compulsions must cause significant distress, take up a lot of time, or noticeably interfere with work, school, or social life.
