Beetroot is rich in nitrates, which have the potential to widen blood vessels (vasodilation) and, in turn, possibly lower blood pressure. While there is a theoretical concern about the nitrate content in beets causing a blood pressure drop, research consistently indicates that any impact is generally minor and short-lived. However, it's crucial to be aware that blood pressure medications alone can cause dizziness and lightheadedness. Combining them with beet supplements might heighten the risk of experiencing these side effects due to the temporary vasodilation caused by the nitrates in beet.

Here's the simple version: both Tekturna and these beet chews can gently relax your blood vessels and nudge your blood pressure down. Aliskiren does this by blocking renin, while the nitrates from the beetroot help widen vessels for a short time. Stack them together and those effects can add up a little, so you might notice more dizziness, lightheadedness, or feeling a bit woozy when you stand up quickly.

The good news is this is rated a minor interaction, and studies show the blood pressure dip from beets is usually small and temporary. Most people do fine. Still, if you decide to use both, stand up slowly at first and keep an eye on how you feel. Check in with your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially if your pressure already runs low.

Each serving of HumanN SuperBeets includes 150mg of grape seed extract (2 chews). Laboratory studies suggest that grape seed extract might have inhibitory effects on the CYP3A4 metabolizing enzyme. If this enzyme is inhibited, drugs metabolized by it may undergo slower metabolism, potentially leading to (in many cases) higher-than-normal drug levels. Elevated drug levels can increase the risk of experiencing side effects. However, it's important to point out that there is no documented or reported instance of this specific interaction occurring in human studies.

Here's the gist for Aliskiren (Tekturna): the grape seed extract in these chews has shown, in lab dishes only, a possible ability to slow down CYP3A4, one of the enzymes your body uses to break down aliskiren. In theory, slower breakdown could let a little more drug build up, which might nudge its blood-pressure-lowering effect harder. With aliskiren that could mean more dizziness, lightheadedness, or feeling unusually tired.

I want to be honest with you though: this is very weak, theoretical stuff. No real person has been reported to have a problem from this combo, and it's rated minor and unlikely. The bigger thing to watch is that beets themselves can gently lower blood pressure too. Just keep an eye on how you feel and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding these.

Aliskiren tablets — available as the brand Tekturna and as generic aliskiren — are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and in children who are at least 6 years old and weigh 50 kg (about 110 lbs) or more. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks.

Controlling blood pressure is most effective as part of a broader plan that may include healthy eating, exercise, reducing sodium, and managing other risk factors like cholesterol and blood sugar. Many people need more than one blood pressure medicine to reach their goal.
