Isocarboxazid falls under MONOAMINE OXIDASE INHIBITORS (MAOIs) — the group Hydrazine Sulfate interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use with other MAOIs might increase the effects and adverse effects associated with MAOIs.
Medications with hydrazine chemical moieties (e.g., phenelzine) are known to inhibit monoamine oxidase. Theoretically, hydrazine sulfate acts as an MAOI.

Here's the concern with these two together. Isocarboxazid (Marplan) is already a strong MAO inhibitor, meaning it blocks an enzyme so your brain holds onto more mood-related chemicals. Hydrazine sulfate contains a hydrazine structure similar to certain MAOI drugs, so in theory it may block that same enzyme too. Stacking two things that work the same way could push the effect too far.

If that happened, you might see exaggerated MAOI-type problems like dangerously high blood pressure, headaches, racing heart, agitation, or confusion. I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical worry based on chemistry, not proven studies. Even so, hydrazine sulfate isn't recommended for any use, and it's risky on its own. Please don't combine these without talking to your doctor or pharmacist first.

What Is Isocarboxazid Used For?

Brand name: Marplan

Marplan (isocarboxazid) is indicated for the treatment of depression — specifically, major depressive disorder. Because it carries serious risks, it is not a first-choice antidepressant. Marplan is generally reserved for patients who have not responded adequately to other antidepressants.

Clinical trials showed Marplan to be effective in adult outpatients with major depressive disorder, including those whose depression was accompanied by anxiety symptoms such as panic or phobias. Marplan is not approved for use in children or adolescents.
