Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Apidra (insulin glulisine) is a fast-acting insulin you take with meals to bring your blood sugar down. Here's the concern: hydrazine sulfate may also lower blood sugar on its own. In animal studies and a few patient reports it had a glucose-lowering effect, so stacking it on top of your insulin could push your numbers too low.

If that happens, you might feel shaky, sweaty, dizzy, confused, or get a pounding heart, and a severe drop can be dangerous. Keep in mind this interaction is mostly theoretical, but hydrazine sulfate also carries real nerve and liver risks and isn't proven to help cancer. Please don't start it without talking to your doctor or pharmacist first, and check your blood sugar closely if you do.
