Alogliptin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Ilex Guayusa interacts with.

Theoretically, taking Ilex guayusa with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Animal research in a model of hyperglycemia suggests that Ilex guayusa may have antihyperglycemic effects, although it does not appear to lower glucose levels when compared with baseline. This effect has not been evaluated in humans.

Here's the gist with alogliptin (Nesina) and guayusa tea. On paper, guayusa has shown some mild blood-sugar-lowering activity in animal studies, so the theory is that pairing it with a diabetes medicine like alogliptin could nudge your sugar a little lower than expected. But this is purely theoretical, and that effect hasn't even been confirmed in people yet.

In real life, the risk is low. Alogliptin by itself rarely causes hypoglycemia, so this combo is unlikely to send you crashing. Still, it's smart to know the warning signs (shakiness, sweating, dizziness, sudden hunger) just in case. If you drink guayusa regularly, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea.
