Here's the simple version: guayusa is basically a caffeine-rich tea, and modafinil is already a wake-promoting medication. They aren't fighting each other for the same liver enzyme so much as they're pushing in the same direction. Stack a stimulant on top of a stimulant and the effects can add up.

What that looks like in real life is more jitteriness, a racing or pounding heart, trouble sleeping, anxiety, or headache, all of which modafinil can cause on its own. This concern is largely theoretical and rated as expert opinion, so it isn't a hard rule. A single cup probably matters less than several strong servings or concentrated supplements. If you notice you feel wired or your heart is racing, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

What Is Modafinil Used For?

Brand names: Provigil, Sparlon, Alertec

Modafinil (also sold as Provigil) is used to improve wakefulness in adults who experience excessive sleepiness due to narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), or shift work disorder (SWD).

In OSA, modafinil treats the sleepiness — not the underlying airway obstruction itself. It is used alongside standard treatments such as CPAP (a breathing device worn during sleep), not as a replacement for them. If CPAP is appropriate for you, your doctor will want you to use it consistently even while taking modafinil.
