Theoretically, Ilex guayusa might increase the levels and adverse effects of flutamide.
Ilex guayusa contains caffeine. In vitro evidence suggests that caffeine can inhibit the metabolism of flutamide. Theoretically, concomitant use of caffeine and flutamide might increase serum concentrations of flutamide and increase the risk adverse effects.

Here's the gist with guayusa and flutamide. Guayusa is basically a caffeine-rich tea, and lab studies suggest caffeine may slow down how your body breaks flutamide down. If that happens in real life, flutamide could build up a bit higher than expected, which could nudge up its side effects like nausea, diarrhea, hot flashes, or stress on the liver.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though: it's only based on test-tube data, not on actual patients, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. An occasional cup likely isn't a big deal, but regular or concentrated guayusa supplements are worth mentioning. Since flutamide already needs liver monitoring, check with your pharmacist or oncology team before adding it.

About Flutamide

What Is Flutamide Used For?

Brand names: Eulexin, Euflex

Eulexin (flutamide) capsules are used to treat prostate cancer in men. They are always used together with an LHRH agonist (a hormone-lowering injection), never alone.

Eulexin is indicated for two stages of prostate cancer: locally confined Stage B2-C prostate cancer (used alongside goserelin acetate and radiation therapy, starting eight weeks before radiation begins) and Stage D2 metastatic prostate cancer (cancer that has spread beyond the prostate, taken with an LHRH agonist until the disease progresses).
