Here's the gist with saxagliptin (Onglyza) and juniper. Saxagliptin already works to lower your blood sugar by boosting insulin after meals. In animal studies, juniper berry seems to nudge blood sugar down too. So the worry is simple math: putting them together could lower your blood sugar a little more than expected, which we call additive blood sugar lowering.

I'll be honest, this is theoretical and based mostly on lab and animal data, not strong human studies, so I wouldn't panic. Saxagliptin on its own rarely causes serious lows. Still, if you take concentrated juniper supplements, keep an eye out for shakiness, sweating, or feeling lightheaded, and check your sugar if you can. The gin-and-food amounts likely won't matter. Always loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.
