Linezolid falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Kratom interacts with.

Theoretically, taking kratom in combination with serotonergic drugs may increase levels of serotonin, increasing the risk of serotonin syndrome.
A 63-year-old male presented with possible serotonin syndrome after taking an unknown dose of kratom for up to 3 months along with serotonergic prescription medications bupropion, buspirone, desvenlafaxine, trazodone, and ziprasidone. It was hypothesized that kratom inhibited the cytochrome P450 3A4-, 2C9-, 2D6-, and 1A2-mediated metabolism of several of these serotonergic medications, consequently increasing systemic exposure to serotonin.

Here's something a lot of people don't realize about linezolid: besides being an antibiotic, it acts like a mild MAO inhibitor, which means it can raise serotonin levels in your body. Kratom also nudges serotonin upward. Put the two together and you may stack up too much serotonin at once, which can lead to serotonin syndrome, things like agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shivering, muscle twitching, or confusion.

I want to be honest about the strength of this concern: it's largely theoretical and based mostly on a single case report involving other serotonin drugs, not linezolid specifically. Still, since linezolid already carries serotonin warnings, I'd play it safe. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

About Linezolid

What Is Linezolid Used For?

Brand names: Zyvox, Zyvox Injection

Linezolid — available as Zyvox and in generic forms — is used to treat infections caused by certain drug-resistant Gram-positive bacteria. It is approved for adults and children for nosocomial pneumonia (hospital-acquired lung infection), community-acquired pneumonia, complicated skin and skin structure infections (including diabetic foot infections, but only when bone infection is not also present), uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections, and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium infections.

It is important to know that linezolid does not work against Gram-negative bacteria. If a Gram-negative infection is also present or suspected, a separate antibiotic must be started right away. Linezolid should only be used for infections that are confirmed or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria, to help prevent antibiotic resistance.
