Lemon Balm and Chlordiazepoxide, Clidinium Bromide

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

CNS DEPRESSANTS

Why this applies to Chlordiazepoxide, Clidinium Bromide

Chlordiazepoxide, Clidinium Bromide falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Lemon Balm interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of lemon balm might have additive effects with CNS depressant drugs.
Lemon balm seems to have CNS depressant activity in animals and in humans.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence B

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing to keep in mind with Librax: the chlordiazepoxide part is a benzodiazepine, so it already has a calming, sedating effect on your brain. Lemon balm appears to have its own mild relaxing, drowsy-type activity. Put the two together and those effects can stack up, so you might feel more sleepy, foggy, dizzy, or unsteady than you would expect from your medication alone.

I'll be honest, this is mostly a theoretical concern based on small studies and animal data, not strong human proof, so for many people occasional lemon balm tea is unlikely to cause trouble. Still, concentrated supplement capsules are stronger than a culinary amount. Before adding lemon balm, run it by your pharmacist or doctor, and don't drive until you know how the combination affects you.
