Lithium + Ketoprofen
Ketoprofen brand names: Orudis, Oruvail Gel, Powergel, Oruvail Injection.
Lithium has a moderate interaction with Ketoprofen. Theoretically, taking lithium supplements with NSAIDs might increase lithium levels and adverse effects.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
NONSTEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS (NSAIDs)
Why this applies to Ketoprofen
Ketoprofen falls under NONSTEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS (NSAIDs) — the group Lithium interacts with.
NSAIDs can decrease the renal clearance of lithium and increase lithium levels. It is unclear if this interaction would be clinically significant with the smaller doses found in lithium supplements.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the gist with these two. Ketoprofen is an NSAID (a pain and inflammation reliever), and one quirk of NSAIDs is that they can make your kidneys hold onto lithium instead of flushing it out. When that happens, lithium levels in the blood can drift upward. So the concern isn't that ketoprofen becomes stronger, it's that your lithium can build up.
Why that matters: lithium has a narrow safety window, so even modest increases can tip you into side effects like tremor, nausea, increased thirst, frequent urination, or feeling foggy or unsteady. Now, this is a theoretical concern based on how these drugs behave, and it's genuinely unclear whether the small amounts in lithium supplements would cause trouble. Still, before pairing them, check with your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ketoprofen page
“Bleeding is what worries me most with ketoprofen (Orudis, Oruvail Gel). As an NSAID, it already irritates the stomach lining and slows clotting, and 202 of the 252 supplements and herbs on this page can push that bleeding risk further.”

About Lithium
What is Lithium?
- Mood support
- Bipolar disorder (prescription)
- Healthy mental function
- Irritability or stress
- Sleep support
Lithium is a naturally occurring metal that, in prescription form (lithium carbonate or citrate), is an FDA-approved, well-proven treatment for bipolar disorder. Low-dose supplement forms like lithium orotate are sold for mood support, but there is very little reliable evidence that they work, and even small amounts of lithium can be risky for some people. Always talk to a pharmacist or doctor before taking any lithium product.
About Ketoprofen
What Is Ketoprofen Used For?
Brand names: Orudis, Oruvail Gel, Powergel, Oruvail Injection
Ketoprofen capsules (including the Orudis brand) are approved for rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, general pain management, and primary dysmenorrhea (painful menstrual periods). Ketoprofen extended-release capsules are approved for rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis only — they are not recommended for acute pain because of their slow-release design.
Regardless of formulation, the goal is always to use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time needed.

Ketoprofen Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Ketoprofen as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Lithium — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
