Theoretically, taking lithium supplements with anticonvulsants might increase the risk of neurotoxicity.
Drugs such as carbamazepine and phenytoin seem to increase the risk of neurotoxicity. It is unclear if this interaction would occur with the smaller doses found in lithium supplements.

Here's the honest picture with gabapentin and lithium together. This is a theoretical concern, meaning it comes from how these substances behave in the body rather than from solid studies in people. The worry is that combining them might add up to more nervous system side effects, sometimes called neurotoxicity.

Gabapentin is not a prodrug, and it isn't broken down much by the liver. It leaves your body mostly through the kidneys, and lithium does too, so in theory the two could nudge each other's levels or stack their effects. What that could look like in real life is more drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, unsteady walking, or trouble concentrating. The flagged risk is mainly tied to stronger anticonvulsants like carbamazepine, and it's unclear whether the tiny amounts in lithium supplements matter at all. Still, please run this combination by your pharmacist or doctor before starting.

About Gabapentin

What Is Gabapentin Used For?

Brand names: Neurontin, Gralise

Gabapentin (brands include Neurontin, Relgaabi, Gabarone, Gralise, and Horizant) is primarily used to manage postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) — the nerve pain that lingers after a shingles outbreak — in adults. Neurontin, Relgaabi, Gabarone, and gabapentin capsules, tablets, and oral solution are also used as add-on therapy for partial onset seizures (a type of epilepsy) in adults and children aged 3 and older.

Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil extended-release tablet) has two specific approvals: treatment of moderate-to-severe primary restless legs syndrome (RLS) in adults, and management of postherpetic neuralgia in adults. Horizant is not recommended for people who need to sleep during the day and stay awake at night. Gralise is approved only for postherpetic neuralgia and cannot be substituted for other gabapentin products due to its different release profile.
