Methylsynephrine and Fluticasone Proprionate, Salmeterol

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

BETA-ADRENERGIC AGONISTS

Why this applies to Fluticasone Proprionate, Salmeterol

Fluticasone Proprionate, Salmeterol falls under BETA-ADRENERGIC AGONISTS — the group Methylsynephrine interacts with.

Methylsynephrine has beta agonist activity. Theoretically, concomitant use of large amounts of methylsynephrine might increase the cardiac inotropic effects of beta-agonists. Beta-adrenergic agonists include albuterol (Ventolin, Proventil), metaproterenol (Alupent), terbutaline (Brethine, Bricanyl), and isoproterenol (Isuprel).

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing to know about your AirDuo: the salmeterol part is a long-acting beta-agonist, meaning it works on the same receptors that speed up your heart and open your airways. Methylsynephrine is also a stimulant that acts like adrenaline. Stack the two together and you're essentially pushing the same pedal twice. In theory, that could add up to a faster or pounding heartbeat, jitteriness, tremor, anxiety, or higher blood pressure.

This concern is theoretical, based on how the two work rather than firm patient studies, so I don't want to alarm you. But methylsynephrine isn't a legal or safe supplement ingredient to begin with, so I'd steer clear of it entirely. Please run any pre-workout or weight-loss product past your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Methylsynephrine

What is Methylsynephrine?

  • Weight loss and fat burning
  • Boosting energy
  • Athletic and workout performance
  • Appetite control

Methylsynephrine (also called oxilofrine) is a synthetic stimulant sometimes added to weight-loss and pre-workout products, but it is not a legal or approved dietary ingredient in the United States. It has been linked to serious heart and blood pressure problems, and there is no good evidence it is safe or effective for these uses, so it is best avoided.
