Glucose falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Picrorhiza interacts with.

Evidence from animal research suggests that an extract of picrorhiza can reduce fasting and non-fasting blood sugar levels. Theoretically, picrorhiza might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs and increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary. Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.

Here's the wrinkle with this one: glucose itself is sugar. It's used to raise blood sugar, often as IV glucose for someone whose levels have dropped too low or who can't eat. So while our interaction file groups it under antidiabetes drugs, glucose actually does the opposite job.

The concern on file is that picrorhiza may lower blood sugar, based only on animal and lab research, so the evidence is weak and theoretical. If you're being given glucose to fix a low, an herb that tugs sugar downward could work against it and make it harder to climb back up. This isn't well proven in people, but if you're in a situation where glucose is needed, that's a medical setting anyway. Please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining the two.
