ROSUVASTATIN (Crestor)

Theoretically, taking pomegranate with rosuvastatin might increase the risk of adverse effects.
In one case, a patient taking rosuvastatin 5 mg every other day in combination with ezetimibe 10 mg daily developed rhabdomyolysis after drinking pomegranate juice 200 mL twice weekly for 3 weeks. This patient had a history of elevated creatine kinase levels while not receiving any statin treatment. This suggests a possible underlying myopathy and predisposition to rhabdomyolysis.

Roszet combines two cholesterol medicines: rosuvastatin (a statin) and ezetimibe. The concern here is that pomegranate, mostly as concentrated juice or extract, might raise levels of the rosuvastatin part in your body, which could make statin side effects more likely. The big one to watch for with any statin is muscle trouble, things like aches, weakness, tenderness, or in rare cases a serious breakdown of muscle called rhabdomyolysis.

I want to be honest about how thin the evidence is. This comes from a single case report in a person who already had a tendency toward muscle problems, so it's far from proven. Everyday food amounts of pomegranate are unlikely to cause issues. If you regularly drink a lot of pomegranate juice or take extracts, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor, and never stop your medicine on your own.
