Rucaparib Camsylate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Pomegranate interacts with.

Theoretically, pomegranate might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro, pomegranate juice inhibits CYP2D6. However, the clinical significance of this potential interaction in humans is not known.

Here's the basic idea with Rubraca (rucaparib) and pomegranate. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help process this medication. In lab tests (test tube only, not in people), pomegranate slowed that enzyme down. In theory, that could let a bit more rucaparib build up in your system, which might mean more of its usual side effects like nausea, tiredness, low blood counts, or changes in taste.

I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It comes from laboratory studies, not real patients, so we truly don't know if it matters in everyday life. Enjoying pomegranate as a food or occasional juice is unlikely to be a problem. Before using concentrated pomegranate extracts, just run it by your oncologist or pharmacist so they can keep an eye on things.

About Rucaparib

What Is Rucaparib Used For?

Brand name: Rubraca

Rubraca (rucaparib) is used for two types of cancer in adults who carry a harmful BRCA gene mutation (either inherited or found in the tumor). First, it is used as maintenance treatment — meaning ongoing treatment to keep cancer from coming back — in people with recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer, or primary peritoneal cancer who responded (fully or partially) to platinum-based chemotherapy.

Second, Rubraca treats metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (advanced prostate cancer that has stopped responding to hormone-lowering treatment) in adults who have already received androgen receptor-directed therapy. Patients must be tested with an FDA-approved companion diagnostic to confirm the BRCA mutation before starting Rubraca for prostate cancer.
