ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Doxylamine Succinate
Doxylamine Succinate falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Poria Mushroom interacts with.
In animal research, poria mushroom essential oil reduces acetylcholinesterase activity. This interaction has not been shown in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with doxylamine (Unisom) and Poria mushroom. Doxylamine works as an anticholinergic, meaning it blocks the action of a brain chemical called acetylcholine. That blocking is what makes it sleepy and dries you out. In animal studies, Poria mushroom seems to do the opposite, nudging acetylcholine levels up a bit. So in theory the two could work against each other, and you might notice doxylamine doesn't make you quite as drowsy or work as well for sleep.
I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern drawn from lab and animal research, and it hasn't been shown in actual people. I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, if you plan to use both regularly, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor first.

“Someone reaching for doxylamine succinate (Unisom) to fall asleep is often the same person browsing the supplement aisle, and that pairing deserves genuine care here.
